Fifth seeded Konstantin Kravchuk of Russia will take on title holder and local star seventh seeded Denis Istomin in the singles finals at the ninth edition of the $125000 Tashkent ATP Challenger being played at the Olympic Tennis School in Tashkent.
In the semifinals Fifth seeded Russian Konstantin played convincingly, to oust eighth seeded Mirza Basic of Bosnia Herzegovina 7-5,6-3 in 1 hour and 21 minutes. In the other semifinal lasting 1 hour and 11 minutes Local star Denis Istomin stopped Sixth seeded Lukas Lacko of Slovakia to keep alive his bid for his third title here
Finalist at Astana , South Korea( Busan), Taiwan , quarterfinalist at Israel Open this year Kravchuk showed great form in ousting Mirza Basic of Bosnia Herzegovina 7-5,6-3 and will take on Istomin in what can be termed a revenge match( Kravchuk defeated Istomin in Astana in the semifinals of the Presidents Cup to enter top 100 3 months ago).
" I’m thrilled , today I concentrated on my game rather than my opponent. when I came into Tashkent we decided to go match by match , I played cool and composed , I’m thrilled to be in the final in Tashkent " said the 31 year old Kravchuk a resident of Moscow who is currently ranked 102.
In the second semifinals Istomin showed great hurry in disposing off sixth seeded Lukas Lacko 6-4,6-4 . In the first set Istomin broke Lacko in the 5th game and in the second set he broke Lacko in the 9th game firing three winners from the back court.
Earlier in the morning when the sun came out again after a day off yesterday , Istomin was stretched to the full by qualifier Ivan Dodig of Croatia in the unfinished quarter finals , Istomin secured a 6-4,7-6(15-13) win in a close match. while Lacko recorded a upset ousting second seeded Jeremy Chardy France 4-6,7-6(3),6-4 .
The finalists will fight for winners prize of 125 ATP points and $16000 while the runner-up will get $10600 and 75 ATP points
