Safwat shocks second seed Fabbiano to enter quarterfinals at $150K Tashkent ATP.

Four seeds knocked out

Tashkent, October 11:  Egypt’s Mohamed Safwat shocked second seeded Thomas Fabbiano of Italy , as four  other seeds fell by the wayside in the second round singles matches  at  the 10th edition of the  $150K Tashkent ATP Challenger being played on the Olympic tennis school courts in Tashkent.

In one the biggest upsets of the day 27 year old  Mohamed  Safwat of Egypt ranked 241 shocked second seeded and 76th ranked Italian Thomas  Fabbiano   6-3 ,3-6 , 6-2 in  a 1 hour 50 minute match..

In another major upset Tashkent born Frenchman  Gleb Sakharov  knocked out third seeded Next Gen player Kazakhstan’s Alexsander  Bublik   7-6(8),0-6,6-2 in 1 hour and 48 minute battle . Bublik served 11 Aces and 11 Double faults in a match which witnessed swing in fortunes.

The other upsets of the day  saw , Czech player Vaclav  Safranek upset sixth seeded Italian Matteo  Berrettini   6-4,  7-6(3)  , Poland’s 21 year old and 317th ranked Kamil  Majchrzak upset seventh seeded and 152 ranked Yuki  Bhambri   6-4, 1-6 , 6-4 in a 1hour 50 minute encounter , another Czech player Marek  Jaloviec  upset eighth seeded and winner of the 2016 edition Konstantin Kravchuk of Russia 6-2, 6-4 in just over an hour to make the last eight stage of the tournament.

The Safwat- Fabbiano Match was marked by high class tennis by both the players , Safwat broke early in the first set and capatilised to win the first set 6-3 , in the set Fabbiano upped his game  and served well  and also hit some excellent winners  to break Safwat in the fourth game and go on to win the set 6-3 and force the third set .  In the third set Safwat who seemed to have lost his momentum in the second , came back into his own  and settling down , he broke Fabbiano early in the third game and kept up the pressure and his serve to clinch the set 6-3 and a place in the quarter final.

Thomas has been in great form and also the second seed here , I’m thrilled with my win as it one of my biggest win . I played very well in the opening set and lost timing on forehand in the second set , but I  built my momentum in the third set  and won , it’s a good win for me, said Safwat after the match.

Top seeded and local star  Denis Istomin   disposed off Bosnia Herzegovina’s  Aldin Setkic 6-4, 6-1 in just over hour , while winner of the 2012 edition here Belorussian Uladzimir  Ignatik  stopped the progress of qualifier Danilo Petrovic of Serbia  6-4 , 6-2. Fourth seeded  Guillermo  Garcia-Lopez of Spain also ended the journey of  qualifier  Denys  Molchanov of Ukraine winning  7-5 ,6-1
