21 year Kamil Majchrzak Poland reached his first-ever semifinal on the ATP Challenger Tour accounting for Egypt’s Mohamed Safawat. . Majchrzak winner of the 2013 US Open boys’ doubles title also won the gold at the Youth Olympics in 2014 at Nanjing
Majchrzak reached his career high ranking of 246 in May this year, but some early losses has seen his ranking drop to 341 currently .
The 21 year who has played some great tennis from the first round at the Tashkent Challenger was elated reaching his first ever semis on the ATP Challenger Tour.
He spoke to Sunder Iyer of the Tashkent Challenger Media Team after his win today.
On his win against giant killer of the week Mohamed Safawat today?
Very happy to be in the first semifinals of the ATP Challenger Tour , I hope it is not over yet , I started well , breaking my opponent in the very first game , I played solid tennis and playing as I wanted , felt in control of the match.
You seem to relish the conditions here and it seems to suit your game?
It’s my First time in Uzbekistan , the weather is perfect weather to play tennis , I’m liking the courts and the bounce and feel comfortable .
How tough was it to make it to the Challenger Tour?
I finished as world No 7 junior and the moved to the circuit , it was not as tough as I got to 250 rankings , but from then on I started feeling the pressure , things were just not going good for me , had some early losses , some injuries and rankings dropped , but few months ago I have changed coach , things are getting better and moving forward positively .
Your Favorite player?
My favorite player is Novak Djokovic and I appreciate him for his mental strength
You too seem cool in handling pressure well on courts ?
During my juniors days I was very cool player , but I started coming under pressure on the senior tour , but I guess It takes time and I’m adjusting to the Pro Tour and surely will learn to be strong .
On the year so far?
It’s been a Disappointing start of the year tennis wise , also I had some injuries which I have sorted out , now it’s time for me to make steps and hope this is the beginning .
Your aim for the year end?
I hope to make a ranking which will help me to make Qualifiers of the Australian open and get to play in all the Grand slams in 2018 , I still have to Defend points , so will decide next plans after my performance here.
Your Views on Tashkent Challenger?I like the tournament, it is a good example of how a good challenger should be organized, they make you feel comfortable and all the players also say the same things, It’s a great event.
