Garcia- Lopez shocks home favorite Istomin to reach finals at $150K Tashkent ATP Challenger

Tashkent, October 13 : Fourth seeded  Guillermo Garcia Lopez of Spain shocked home favorite and top seeded   Denis Istomin  in the semifinals of the  $150K Tashkent ATP Challenger being played on the Olympic tennis school courts in Tashkent.

Fourth seeded Garcia Lopez ill now take on  unseeded Kamil Majchrzak of Poland  in the finals of the 10th edition of the event.

In the semifinals 105 ranked Spaniard Garcia Lopez came back from set point in the first set to oust 51  ranked home favorite Denis Istomin 7-6(5),6-4 in 1 hour 40 minutes . In the other semifinals unseeded Kamil Majchrzak of Poland continued his good run in the event outplaying  Marek Jaloviec of Czech Republic 6-4, 4-6,6-3 in 1 hour 47 minutes.

It was  a memorable day for Guillermo Garcia Lopez who ousted top seed Denis Istomin fresh from a tour title at Chengdu 7-6(5),6-4 . , the passage  into the finals also ensured Garcia Lopez getting back into the Top 100 rankings.

Garcia Lopez started badly and was broken in the very second  game by Istomin ,  who raced to a  5-3 lead  , In the ninth game  Istomin double faulted on a set point and this proved too costly an error as the Spaniard clawed back to break  Istomin in that  9th game  and then hold serve to  level scores 5-5 , in the tiebreak Garcia lopez hit three backhand winners  to take the tiebreak and win the first set 7-6(5).

In the second set the 105 ranked Gacia Lopez who enjoyed a 4-1 career win record against Istomin before this match ,  broke  the hard serving Uzbek in the second game ,and kept the lead till 5-3 , Istomin played a solid 9th game to break Garcia Lopez and reduce the margin to 4-5 , but lost his serve immediately in the 10th game to  go down on his home courts.7-6(5),6-4 in  1 hours and 40 minutes.

"I feel happy with the win ,   Denis is good player , he has good results at home . He had chances to win the first set  as  I didnt put too many returns , but after I survived after the set point things changed for me  , I thought  he was thinking too much and couldnt close the set

I was up in the second set , I needed to close and but was tight , Denis played a  good game to break  me , but  I hit some good backhands in the next set to break him at love.  This is double joy for me as I will be getting  back to be in top 100 " said the 34 year Garcia Lopez after the match .

In the finals Garcia Lopez will be challenged by giant killer Kamil Majchrzak of Poland who continued his good run in the event outplaying  Marek Jaloviec of Czech Republic 6-4, 4-6,6-3 in 1 hour 47 minutes.

In the first set Majchrzak  broke in the 10th game to win the set  , In second set  Jaloviec broke Majchrzak in the 9th game  and held to win 6-4 to win the set and force a deciding set .In the deciding set Majchrzak  broke Jaloviec  in the 6th game ,  in the 7th game he saved three breakpoints on his serve to held on to win 6-3 and reach his  first Challenger Tour final of the Year .

" Im Very happy to win , I had lot of chances in the second set but gave my opponent chances to make come back,  I was Lucky   in the third Set , but happy to make a final "  I have watched my opponent play on TV  before but never played him before , Im sure I will do all my best ", said  Majchrzak after the match.

 Podlipnik-Castillo - Vasilevski pair win doubles title 

Second seeded Hans  Podlipnik-Castillo of Chile and Andrei Vasilevski  of Belarus lifted the doubles title outplaying    Unseeded Indian pair of Yuki Bhambri and  Divij Sharan  in the finals  .

The second seeded pair of Podlipnik-Castillo and. Vasilevski outplayed Bhambri and Sharan  6-4 ,6-2 in  the finals   The winners got  125 ATP points and $9300 in Prize money , while the  finalist had to be content with 75 Points and $5400  .
