Tashkent, October 14 : Fourth seeded Guillermo Garcia Lopez of Spain outclassed unseeded Kamil Majchrzak of Poland to win the 10th edition $150K Tashkent ATP Challenger which concluded on the Olympic tennis school courts in Tashkent.
Fourth seeded and 105 ranked Garcia Lopez secured a 6-1, 7-6(1) win over unseeded 317 ranked Kamil Majchrzak of Poland in a 1 hour 32 minute well contested final.
Guillermo Garcia Lopez who ousted top seed Denis Istomin yesterday , looked like carrying on with the same form breaking the 21 year Old Polish Majchrzak in the 3rd and the 5th games and serving solidly to win the first set 6-1.
In the second set broke Garcia Lopez broke in
the 4th game to go up 3-1 and looked like wrapping the match but Majchrzak 14
years younger than the Spaniard , Broke
immediately in the 5th game with a
delicate drop shot to get the score to 3-2 .
After holds by both players Majchrzak broke the inform Garcia Lopez in the 9th game playing d intelligent tennis and moving up to the net and finishing three volleys to go up 5-4 . On his serve in the 10th game Majchrzak held three set points serving at 40-15 , but Garcia Lopez used his vast experience mixing backhand slice and roll to save four set points and break the young Polish to level scores at 5-5 on his second break point.
The 11th game saw Garcia Lope holding on his serve at Love and going up 6-5, Majchrzak also played a good service game to force a tiebreaker. Two back hand winners in a row by Garcia Lopez and a double fault by Majchrzak ensured a comfortable tiebreaker win for Garcia Lopez and his second title of the year.
The win here in Tashkent ensures that Garcia
Lopez a top 25 player in 2011 , catapults to 80 in the rankings . It was the
second Challenger Title win for the Spanish Player having won the Scheveningen
Challenger and finishing finalist at two other Challengers
It’s double joy for me winning the title and moving to the top 100 , It was a good match , Kamil played very well in the second set and put me in pressure , but I played the 9th game well used backhands well , , Its great to end a good week with a title.
I don’t have to defend anything for the next six months and only try and build on my game and rankings " I will like to thank my coach for getting me back " said and emotional Garcia Lopez ,
