Maria Timofeeva will represent Uzbekistan on the international stage

Tennis player Maria Timofeeva will officially compete under the flag of Uzbekistan. The relevant changes have already been made to her profile on the official website of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA).

The 21-year-old athlete is ranked 146th in the WTA world rankings, and her highest position is 93rd, achieved in August 2023. Last week, Maria won her next title by winning the ITF W75 QUINTA DO LAGO tournament in Portugal.

“We are delighted to welcome Maria Timofeeva to the Uzbekistan national team. She is a strong, ambitious, and determined athlete who is capable of strengthening our country’s position on the international tennis scene. The decision to transfer was made in full compliance with the rules of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA),” said Sador Kamilov, Secretary General of the Uzbekistan Tennis Federation.

He also emphasized that this is a strategic move for the Federation, aimed at developing professional tennis in the country and increasing the competitiveness of the women’s national team. Maria will represent Uzbekistan at WTA tournaments and the Billie Jean King Cup.

“We are confident that her experience and high level of play will inspire the younger generation of athletes and help draw additional attention to tennis in Uzbekistan,” said Sador Kamilov.

The Uzbekistan Tennis Federation continues to develop international cooperation and strengthen the position of national teams.

The addition of a world-class athlete to the team is an important step in the formation of a professional tennis school, where young players will be able to look up to the country’s strong and successful representatives.
